CA State Parks Portola Redwoods ( Santa Cruz Mtns)

The troop camped in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains among towering trees. It was pleasantly cool most of the day. Scouts took a short hike to Tip-Toe Falls, which in contrast to the flier, was a tiny trickle with a pond. Scouts spent the afternoon near camp, having fun in the creek bed next to the camp. There were a fair amount of mosquitoes which buzzed around most of the day. Wildlife included tons of screeching of Blue Jays and many bright yellow banana slugs.

Family Outing Review: SF Golden Gate Bridge Bikeride

The San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge bike ride was cool in more ways then one. The scouts and adults rode on into overcast with chilly winds. They rode on the sidewalk and then gravel. Then rode (or walked) up a hill to the bridge. The veiw was amazing but you had to be careful of whipping winds, narrow points and crazy bikers. At the other end everyone walked up a hill to arrive at Spencer Battery, an old fort used to guard the Golden Gate from the 1840's to the 1940's. We had lunch at the old fort, took pictures and left. The ride back to the vehicles was easy, all downhill and flat with the wind to your back, nothing better!

“We never fail when we try to do our duty, we always fail when we neglect to do it.”

“There is no teaching to compare with example.”

“The most important object in Boy Scout training is to educate, not instruct.”
